Craig here! My first blog as part of the Artistic Team and I’m announcing a hat-trick for us! We’ve all been super busy preparing for the first round of this year’s prestigious L’Oreal Colour Trophy with mood boards, models and photos a plenty going on – well its all been worth it because there are THREE of us shortlisted as finalists! Including me!
I’m following in the big footsteps of Hayleigh and Ashley with a place in the L’Oreal Young Colourist category. Those of you who follow the blog every month will know that these two talented girls both won – no pressure then! We’re almost certain no other salon has won this three years in a row so I am even more excited! I’ve been watching Hayleigh enjoy her year with trips to the LÓreal studios in London and her work with this amazing team of professionals and mentors. It is such an amazing prize for a young stylist to win and I know I’d love it.
Apart from the great experience, I think it gives you a huge boost in confidence, making you a better salon stylist… because my other two finalist buddies are of course, Hayleigh Davidson in the Colour Trophy finalist and Ashley Wallace in the L’Oreal Men’s Image Finalist!
We’re now in full on prep mode for the finals – in the first round, hundreds of photos from across the country were judged by some of hairdressing’s most influential names including last year’s winner and X-Factor hairdresser Jamie Stevens.
The next stage of the competition will puts us right through our paces as we all prepare to create live model looks that will really show off our skills. You need to demonstrate an awareness for on-trend style as well as technique and the brief has been to showcase Autumn/Winter hair and fashion trends. The models need to be original, modern and inspirational and the team judges are looking for a trend-setting, show stopping look that will inspire clients and hairdressers.
This is a huge deal for me. Having a chance to really show off what you’re capable of is exciting – I’m determined I’m having that crown from Hayleigh! The Young Colourist Final is in the L’Oreal Technical Centre Manchester on 13th of May and then we find out at the Grand Final on 1st June in London – it can’t come quick enough!
Meanwhile though, its been business as usual for the Artistic Team! We had a fantastic night at Struans Motor Red Nose Day Ladies Event on March 13th and together with the dealership we helped raise £700 on the night which brought their total up to £2500 – as you’ll see form the photos, it wasn’t really like work, we had a great time!
In April, and then again in May, we’re joining in the Small City, Big Personality Pamper Lounge for Breakthrough Breast Cancer at Perth Racecourse Ladies Day. The April event in St John’s Shopping Centre is a lead in to Ladies Day itself – which is HUGE in Perth – and we’ll showcasing our top tips for the on-trend looks of the season along with fashion retailers, make-up experts and a couple of designers. I so wish we could win that!
Come Ladies Day at the Racecourse, we’ll be offering curls, waves, quick fixes and hair ups for the ladies in the VIP area. Last year we were really busy – the entire event raised over £20,000 for Breakthrough and it was an amazing feeling to be part of that. If you’re one of the lucky 1000 in the VIP area then do remember we’ll be on hand to keep you looking good all day long!
